
Certified Fire Engineer (CFEng.IIESMS)
The Certified Fire Engineer grade represents an advanced level of professional recognition for fire safety practitioners who hold a minimum NFQ Level 8 qualification and have accumulated at least 4 years of relevant experience. Members of this grade are entitled to use the post-nominal designation CFEng.IIESMS.
This grade is intended for experienced fire safety professionals who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to competence in fire engineering, fire risk assessment, fire protection system design, or fire safety management. It acknowledges a depth of knowledge and practical expertise that goes beyond the requirements of the Fire Engineer grade.
Certified Fire Engineers play a leading role within the Fire Safety Group of the Institute and are expected to contribute to the advancement of fire safety standards and practice in Ireland and beyond.

Qualification
A minimum NFQ Level 8 (honours degree) qualification in fire engineering, fire safety, building services, or a closely related discipline recognised by the Institute.
Experience
A minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience in fire safety engineering, fire risk assessment, fire protection design, fire safety management, or a related field.
CPD
Certified Fire Engineer members must complete a minimum of 30 hours of continuing professional development per year. CPD records are subject to audit every 2 years.
Professional Review
Applications undergo a rigorous professional review including verification of qualifications, detailed assessment of experience, and evaluation of competence in fire safety practice.
CPD Requirements
Certified Fire Engineer members are required to complete a minimum of 30 hours of continuing professional development each year. CPD records are subject to audit by the Institute every 2 years. Acceptable activities include attendance at fire safety conferences, delivery of fire safety training, participation in code and standards development committees, publication of technical research, and mentoring of fire safety practitioners at earlier career stages.
Related Grades
Certified Fire Engineer is the senior fire safety grade within the IIESMS. It builds upon the Fire Engineer (FEng.IIESMS) grade and requires a higher level of qualification and experience. Certified Fire Engineers who demonstrate exceptional achievement and leadership may be eligible for nomination to Fellowship (F.IIESMS), the highest grade of the Institute.
