Membership grades

Use this page as the main reference for IIESMS grades before applying or upgrading. IIESMS has six core grades open across the Institute, plus certified grades for fire safety, industrial engineering, facilities management, and safety and health specialists.

Choose the highest grade you can evidence now through completed qualifications, relevant experience and CPD commitment. Healthcare members normally use the core grade pathway unless their evidence fits one of the certified disciplines.

If you are unsure, use Find Your Grade first. The Membership Committee confirms the final grade after reviewing the evidence supplied with the application.

How to Apply

Five steps to IIESMS membership.

1

Choose Your Grade

Review the grades above or use Find Your Grade. Select the grade that matches your completed qualification, relevant experience and sector evidence.

2

Check Requirements

Verify you meet the NFQ qualification and experience requirements. International qualifications are accepted where equivalent; qualifications in progress can be noted but are not normally treated as completed awards.

3

Prepare Documents

Gather qualification certificates or transcripts, a current CV, professional references where relevant, and evidence of sector experience.

4

Apply Online

Complete the online membership application. Pay the EUR 15 registration fee and annual subscription.

5

Professional Review

Your application is assessed by the Membership Committee. Core grades are normally document reviewed; certified grades include a 30-45 minute professional interview and may take longer.

Not sure a sector group fits? Try a Regional Committee

If your professional focus does not align cleanly with one of the five sector groups, or if you would rather engage with the Institute closer to home, IIESMS operates four regional committees aligned with the historic provinces of Ireland: Leinster, Munster, Connacht and Ulster. Regional committees bring members together for CPD events, site visits, networking and local advocacy, and feed directly into the National Council through a liaison officer. Each regional committee can have up to 16 members.

Members can engage through a sector group, a regional committee, or both. Visit the Regional Committee page to see the counties covered by each region and to express interest in joining or leading a regional committee.
