IIESMS Events
IIESMS organises a programme of professional events throughout the year, serving members across all five sector groups. Events provide opportunities for CPD, professional networking, knowledge sharing, and engagement with current developments in your discipline. Whether delivered in person or online, IIESMS events are designed to provide practical, relevant content that supports your professional practice.
The events programme is driven by the sector group committees, who identify topics of current relevance to their members and coordinate events that address those needs. This member-driven approach ensures that events are not generic presentations but focused professional development sessions addressing real challenges facing practitioners in the field.
All IIESMS events are CPD-accredited. Attendance is recorded and contributes to your annual CPD requirement. Certificates of attendance are issued for each event, providing documentation for your CPD records. For many members, the events programme is the most efficient and engaging route to meeting their annual CPD hours.

IIESMS members are encouraged to attend the NAHFO Conference 2026, taking place from 8 to 10 June at the University of Liverpool. The theme for this year is Connected. Protected. Prepared. NAHFO is a leading European body for healthcare engineering professionals, and this conference is a valuable opportunity for members in the Healthcare and Facilities Management sector groups to engage with developments in healthcare fire safety, estates management, and patient environment standards.
In 2025, Council members Paddy McDonnell and Gerard Trehy presented at the CMG Events Fire Safety in Public Buildings Conference, a national conference addressing fire drill procedures and building control regulations. Their participation reflected the Institute's commitment to contributing professional expertise to sector-wide discussions on fire safety practice in Ireland.
Council member Donal Nolan supported the Regional Leaders Programme 2024-2025, delivered by Waterford Chamber Skillnet, which graduated over 500 business leaders. Presenting at IIESMS Events
IIESMS welcomes proposals from members and external experts who wish to present at events. Sharing your knowledge and experience with fellow professionals is a valuable contribution to the profession and is recognised as CPD for the presenter.
If you have expertise in a topic relevant to any of the five sector groups, contact the relevant sector committee or the Institute to propose a presentation. Provide a brief outline of your topic, its relevance to IIESMS members, and your qualifications and experience. The sector committee will review proposals and coordinate scheduling.
How Events Are Organised
IIESMS events follow a consistent format to maximise value for attendees. Technical seminars typically include a presentation by a subject-matter expert followed by a structured discussion and Q&A session. Sector group meetings follow a standing agenda that covers ongoing business, new developments, and forward planning.
The annual conference is the flagship event of the IIESMS calendar. It brings together speakers from across the five disciplines, features panel discussions on cross-cutting professional issues, and provides dedicated networking time. Past conferences have addressed topics including regulatory reform, digital transformation in engineering, and the future of workplace safety management.
