Student Membership
The starting point. Open to anyone enrolled at NFQ Level 5 or above. EUR 30 per year.

About the Student Grade
Student membership is the starting point. If you are currently studying engineering, fire safety, facilities management, safety and health, or healthcare at NFQ Level 5 or above, this grade is for you. There is no experience requirement and no CPD obligation, though we encourage it. The fee is EUR 30 per year.
Student membership is open to those enrolled in programmes of study relevant to any of the five IIESMS disciplines - industrial engineering, fire safety, facilities management, safety and health, and healthcare. There is no minimum professional experience requirement, and the annual fee of EUR 30 makes this the most accessible grade for those beginning their professional journey.
Student members do not receive a post-nominal designation, but they gain exposure to the professional environment, networking opportunities with experienced practitioners, and an understanding of the CPD framework and grade progression pathway that will support their career development. The Student grade aligns with the White Belt level of the Lean Six Sigma certification framework.
Student membership is available for a maximum of three years. After this period, members are expected to have completed their programme of study and should apply to upgrade to the appropriate grade based on their qualifications and experience.
Upon completing your programme of study and gaining relevant professional experience, you can apply to upgrade to a higher membership grade - Associate Member, Technician, or above - through the standard application and professional review process. Your time as a Student member provides a foundation for this transition.
