Industrial Engineer (IndEng.IIESMS)
The Industrial Engineer grade is designed for professionals working in industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or related disciplines who hold a minimum NFQ Level 7 qualification. Members of this grade are entitled to use the post-nominal designation IndEng.IIESMS.
This grade recognises competent practitioners who have gained at least 2 years of relevant professional experience in industrial engineering. It is suitable for those working in production planning, process optimisation, quality management, supply chain engineering, and operational efficiency across manufacturing and service industries in Ireland.
Industrial Engineer members contribute to the Industrial Engineering Group within the Institute and benefit from access to technical resources, Lean Six Sigma development pathways, CPD events, and a professional network of industrial engineers.
Entry Requirements
What you need to apply for Industrial Engineer membership
Qualification
A minimum NFQ Level 7 (ordinary degree) qualification in industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related discipline recognised by the Institute.
Experience
A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in industrial engineering, process improvement, production management, or a related field.
CPD
Industrial Engineer members must complete a minimum of 30 hours of continuing professional development per year. CPD records are subject to audit every 2 years.
Professional Review
Applications are subject to professional review including verification of qualifications, assessment of experience, and confirmation of competence in industrial engineering practice.
CPD Requirements
Industrial Engineer members are required to complete a minimum of 30 hours of continuing professional development each year. CPD records are subject to audit by the Institute every 2 years. Acceptable activities include attendance at industrial engineering seminars and conferences, completion of Lean Six Sigma training, participation in technical committees, publication of research or case studies, and mentoring of junior industrial engineers.
Related Grades
Industrial Engineer is the first of two discipline-specific industrial engineering grades within the IIESMS. Professionals who gain further qualifications (NFQ Level 8) and additional experience (4 years) may progress to Certified Industrial Engineer (CIndEng.IIESMS), which recognises a higher level of competence and professional standing in industrial engineering. Both grades sit within the Industrial Engineering Group of the Institute.
