Member (M.IIESMS)

The Member grade is for established professionals who hold an NFQ Level 8 qualification (honours degree or Higher Diploma) or Lean Six Sigma Black Belt with a minimum of 3 years’ relevant professional experience. This grade recognises senior-level competence and significant professional achievement.

Members are typically senior healthcare managers, senior health and safety managers, experienced engineers, or established professionals who have demonstrated sustained competence and commitment to their discipline. The M.IIESMS designation is widely recognised and signals a high standard of professional practice.

This grade is for experienced professionals holding an NFQ Level 8 qualification with at least 3 years’ senior experience across any of IIESMS’s five specialist disciplines.

Senior Healthcare Managers

Experienced professionals in healthcare management, patient safety, or healthcare facility operations with honours-level qualifications.

Senior Safety Managers

Established health and safety professionals managing workplace safety programmes, audits, and compliance at a senior level.

How to Apply

NFQ Level 8 Qualification

Hold an honours degree, Higher Diploma, or equivalent at NFQ Level 8 in a relevant discipline.

Lean Six Sigma: Black Belt + 3 Years

Alternatively, hold a Black Belt certification with a minimum of 3 years’ post-certification professional experience.

Minimum 3 Years’ Experience

Demonstrate at least 3 years of relevant professional experience at a senior or management level.

Application and Professional Review

Submit your application with academic transcripts, CV, and evidence of senior professional experience. A professional interview (30–45 minutes, online) may be required.

CPD Commitment

Maintain 30 hours of CPD per year with a 50/50 formal/informal split.

Continuing Professional Development

Members must complete 30 hours of CPD annually, split equally between formal and informal activities. This is the same requirement as for Certified grades and Fellows, reflecting the senior professional status of this grade. CPD records are audited every 2 years — more frequently than lower grades, ensuring sustained professional currency.

Progression Pathway

Members can progress to Fellow (F.IIESMS) through three pathways: (1) Academic Route — QQI Level 9 + 5 years’ senior experience; (2) Professional Achievement Route — M.IIESMS for 5+ years + 10 years’ senior practice + nomination by 2 Fellows; (3) Lean Six Sigma Route — Master Black Belt + 7 years leading programmes. Fellowship is the highest grade in IIESMS.
