IIESMS European Engagement

IIESMS actively participates in European collaboration programmes that broaden professional development opportunities for members and contribute to the advancement of engineering and safety education across the European Union. Through partnerships with universities and institutions across Europe, the Institute connects Irish professionals to international best practice whilst contributing Irish expertise to collaborative European projects.

The Institute's European engagement is funded through the Erasmus+ programme, the EU's programme for education, training, youth, and sport. Erasmus+ partnerships enable IIESMS to collaborate with partner institutions on developing shared curricula, professional development resources, and research that benefits students and practitioners in all participating countries.

This international dimension complements the Institute's primary focus on serving professionals within the Irish regulatory and industrial context. European engagement brings fresh perspectives, exposes members to different approaches to professional practice, and ensures that IIESMS remains connected to developments in engineering and safety education across the continent.

European Partners

IIESMS collaborates with three university partners through Erasmus+ funded projects.

UBT Kosovo

Partnership with the University for Business and Technology in Kosovo, supporting the development of engineering and safety education programmes. UBT is a leading private university in Kosovo with strong programmes in engineering, computer science, and business.

University of Coimbra, Portugal

Collaboration with one of Europe's oldest universities, founded in 1290. The University of Coimbra has world-class engineering and technology faculties, and the partnership focuses on professional standards and education initiatives.

University of Barcelona, Spain

Partnership with the University of Barcelona contributing to research and education in industrial engineering and management. The university's engineering faculty provides expertise in manufacturing, operations, and systems engineering.

The LISE Project

The LISE (Learning for Industrial and Systems Engineering) project represents a significant milestone in IIESMS's European engagement. Working with partner institutions across three countries, the project develops shared curricula and professional development resources that benefit students and practitioners in all participating nations.

The LISE project addresses the challenge of creating common professional standards and educational frameworks across different European countries, each with their own regulatory environment and industrial context. By developing shared resources whilst respecting national differences, the project demonstrates how international collaboration can enhance professional education without imposing one-size-fits-all solutions.

For IIESMS members, the LISE project provides access to educational resources, research findings, and professional perspectives from across Europe. It also positions the Institute as an active contributor to European-level professional development, enhancing the international credibility of IIESMS membership.
