Past Projects
IIESMS has a long history of participating in projects that advance professional practice, develop educational resources, and support member development across all five disciplines. Since its establishment, the Institute has engaged in collaborative initiatives at national and European level, working alongside universities, professional bodies, and industry partners.
This page records projects that have been completed. The outcomes of these projects continue to benefit IIESMS members through improved training programmes, updated professional standards, and strengthened international networks. For information on ongoing work, visit the Current Projects page.
Types of Projects
Erasmus+ partnerships. IIESMS has participated in EU-funded Erasmus+ projects that bring together professional bodies from multiple European countries. These partnerships focus on developing shared educational resources, harmonising professional standards, and creating mobility pathways for engineers and safety professionals across borders.
Curriculum development. Working with educational institutions and industry stakeholders, IIESMS has contributed to the development of training curricula that reflect current industry needs. These projects ensure that qualifications remain relevant and that graduates enter the workforce with practical, up-to-date knowledge.
Professional standards work. IIESMS has been involved in developing and reviewing professional competency frameworks that define the knowledge, skills, and experience required at each membership grade. This standards work supports transparent, consistent assessment of professional competence.
Sector group initiatives. Individual sector groups have led focused projects on topics such as fire safety management benchmarking, healthcare facility auditing methodologies, and workplace safety measurement. These initiatives produce practical outputs that members can apply directly in their work.
