About Us

Leading the way in industrial, fire, safety, and management engineering, the Institute of Industrial Engineers & Safety Management Systems (IIESMS) has been fostering excellence and innovation across diverse industries in Ireland since 1955.

Who We Are

The Institute of Industrial Engineers & Safety Management Systems (IIESMS) is a leading non-profit organisation advancing industrial, fire, safety, and management engineering. Since its establishment in 1955, IIESMS has been at the forefront of professional development in these fields, ensuring its members have the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in a rapidly evolving business landscape.

In The Industry

The professionals at IIESMS work across various sectors, including manufacturing, aerospace, agriculture, food processing, construction, healthcare, pharma, forestry, finance, leisure, fire & safety, hospitality, logistics, the service sector, and education. This wide-ranging involvement underscores the Institute’s commitment to fostering excellence and innovation across diverse industries.

Partnership

In a strategic move, IIESMS has expanded its stakeholder group to include EU, National, and Regional policymakers. This expansion has facilitated the formation of a three-way partnership among educators, businesses, and policymakers. This tri-partite collaboration is instrumental in aligning educational programs with the business community’s specific needs while ensuring that these programs adhere to the regulatory frameworks and policy directives established by governmental bodies. This alignment is particularly significant in the context of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined in Agenda 2030 and the EU Green Deal policy documents.

Collaboration

Understanding the dynamic nature of engineering and engineering education, IIESMS has forged a robust framework for collaboration with the business sector. This collaborative approach ensures that the Institute’s curriculum and training programs are not only theoretical but also practical and relevant, reflecting the latest industry trends and technological advancements. By working closely with businesses, IIESMS gains insights into the practical challenges faced by various industries, directly informing the development of training materials and educational programs that apply to real-world situations. This practical focus enhances the employability of IIESMS members and equips them to contribute effectively to their respective fields from day one.

Policymaker Inclusion

The inclusion of policymakers in the stakeholder group has several significant benefits. Firstly, it ensures that the training and educational programs offered by IIESMS are designed to meet the highest standards of regulatory compliance and ethical practice. This is critical in fire and safety management, where adherence to safety protocols and regulatory requirements is paramount. Secondly, it enables the Institute to advocate effectively for policies that support the professional development of engineers and safety managers, creating a more conducive environment for innovation and growth within these fields.
