Associate Safety and Health (ASH.IIESMS)
The Associate Safety and Health (ASH.IIESMS) credential recognises safety and health management seniority and is a gateway to more complex and rewarding projects. It is designed for professionals developing and interpreting safety and health policies and systems, providing a pathway for those who do not yet meet the requirements for higher certification levels.
Educational Qualification
Candidates must have one of the following qualifications:
- A recognised qualification in safety and health, such as a National Certificate or Level 6 qualification on the Irish National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ).
- An equivalent qualification recognised by IIESMS.
Professional Experience
Candidates must have at least two years of relevant experience in safety and health management.
Certification Process
The certification process involves demonstrating competence in the following areas:
- Knowledge of safety and health principles.
- Effective communication.
- Adherence to professional and ethical standards.
- Commitment to continuous professional development (CPD).
Application Requirements
Candidates must submit a detailed application providing evidence of their qualifications and relevant experience. The application should include:
- A detailed report outlining the candidate’s knowledge and experience in safety and health management.
- Relevant certificates of qualification.
- Evidence of CPD activities.
Continued Professional Development (CPD)
Associate Safety and Health credential holders must actively engage in CPD activities to maintain and enhance their professional skills and knowledge. Regular updates to CPD records are required to maintain certification status.

Fees and Membership
Members who achieve the Associate Safety and Health credential are entitled to use the designatory letters ASH.IIESMS. The fees associated with the certification process include the following:
- Registration: €15.00
- Grade Review Fee: €150.00
- Practice Review: €95.00 (Alternative Route Only)
- Report Re-assessment: €75.00 (Where applicable – Alternative Route Only)
- Interview Assessment (online): €150.00
- Administration Fee: 20% of the total application process fee (On successful application – The
registration fee is refunded) - Annual Subscription Rates: €225.00
