The Certified Fire Safety Manager (CFSM.IIESMS) credential from the Institute of Industrial Engineers and Safety Management Systems (IIESMS) is designed for individuals who have recently completed a recognised programme and are beginning their professional careers in fire safety management. Educational Qualification

Candidates must have one of the following qualifications:

  • A QQI Level 5 qualification in a fire safety discipline.
  • An equivalent qualification recognised by IIESMS.
  • The National Council has the authority to waive the certificate requirement if an applicant has sufficient professional experience and meets the requirements of a competent person as defined within Irish legislation.

Professional Experience

The Certified Fire Safety Manager grade does not require minimum professional experience, as it is designed for those transitioning from academic study to the early stages of their professional careers.

Professional Competence

Candidates must demonstrate competence in key areas, including:

  • Application of fire safety knowledge.
  • Effective communication.
  • Professional conduct and ethical practice.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development (CPD).

Professional Review

Candidates must submit a detailed application providing evidence of their qualifications and demonstration of competence. This process includes:

  • Submission of a detailed report outlining the candidate’s fire safety knowledge and how it meets the required competencies.
  • In some cases IIESMS sometimes conducts a professional interview to assess the candidate’s knowledge and competencies.

Continued Professional Development (CPD)

Certified Fire Safety Managers must actively engage in CPD activities to maintain and enhance professional skills and knowledge. They must update their CPD records regularly to maintain their status and maintain their current skills, knowledge, and experience.

Fees and Membership

Members who achieve Certified Fire Safety Manager status are entitled to use the designatory letters CFSM.IIESMS. The fees associated with the certification process include the following:

  • Registration: €15.00
  • Grade Review Fee: €75.00
  • Administration Fee: 20% of the total application process fee (on successful application – The
    registration fee is refunded
    )
  • Annual Subscription Rates: €145.00
